Monju Bosatsu L/S [BLACK]

Manjushri Bodhisattva

Wisdom becomes the light that illuminates all things.
Manjushri Bodhisattva has long been worshipped as the Bodhisattva who presides over wisdom.

Holding the sword of wisdom in the right hand to sever earthly desires and delusions, and a lotus flower containing the sutras that teach the truth in the left, this figure symbolizes not just knowledge, but the "wisdom" needed to walk the path of life correctly.

In this work, the lion—the spiritual beast upon which Manjushri rides—is depicted with great power. The lion represents courage and dignity, while also expressing that wisdom is the strength to overcome all fear and hesitation.

Behind the figure, a halo featuring lotus arabesque patterns and the Seven Buddhas is boldly composed. It depicts the eternally expanding world of wisdom by fusing the decorative nature of Japanese painting with contemporary design.

The sea of clouds enveloping the feet represents a state of silence beyond the mundane world, resulting in a piece where dignity and dynamism coexist.

In the colored version, the golden halo and soft coloring express the compassion, wisdom, and purity of Manjushri.
The deep blue of the lion and the radiant red sun disk sharpen the overall composition, creating a piece that conveys a powerful life force even within its stillness.

Wisdom is:
The power to sever delusion,
transcend fear,
and guide oneself.

May you be guided by Manjushri Bodhisattva.
